Depression

Introduction:

Depression is neurological disorder with psychiatric symptoms. While it is often categorized as a mental health condition, research has shown that depression is linked to structural and functional changes in the brain, including the hippocampus, amygdala, frontal lobes, and basal ganglia. These changes are detectable through neuroimaging techniques and suggest a neurobiological basis for the disorder.

Treatments:

Bupropion is an antidepressant drug approved for depression. It has also been used off label for weight loss.  Bupropion is an antidepressant medication that works in the brain. It is approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), seasonal affective disorder (SAD), and to help people quit smoking (smoking cessation).

SPRAVATO (Esketamine -J&J): Esketamine, sold under the brand names Spravato and Ketanest among others, is the S enantiomer of ketamine. It is a dissociative hallucinogen drug used as a general anesthetic and as an antidepressant for treatment of depression.

Trintellix (vortioxetine) is a prescription antidepressant approved for adults to treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). It is unique because it is a “multimodal” medication that both increases serotonin levels and modulates specific serotonin receptors, which can sometimes provide benefits for cognitive symptoms like processing speed and focus.
